Descriptive gazetteer entries

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Penallt like this:

PENALLT, a parcel in Llangattock parish, Brecon; on the river Usk, near Crickhowell. Real property, £3, 651. Pop., 732. Houses, 134. Llangattock church and Crickhowell workhouse are here; and Troy House, a seat of the Duke of Beaufort, is in the neighbourhood.

This is the only descriptive gazetter entry we have found, but you may be able to find further references to Penallt by doing a full-text search here.
