In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Langside like this:
Langside.-- S. suburb of Glasgow, in Cathcart par., Renfrewshire. pop. (including Mount Florida, Strathbungo, &c.), 6023; in the battle of Langside (1568), the troops of Mary Queen of Scots were defeated by those of the Regent Murray.
