A vision of Britain from 1801 to now.
Including maps, statistical trends and historical descriptions.
In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Langside like this:
Langside.-- S. suburb of Glasgow, in Cathcart par., Renfrewshire. pop. (including Mount Florida, Strathbungo, &c.), 6023; in the battle of Langside (1568), the troops of Mary Queen of Scots were defeated by those of the Regent Murray.
This is the only descriptive gazetter entry we have found, but you may be able to find further references to Langside by doing a full-text search here.
This website includes the complete texts of books describing journeys around Britain, written between the twelfth and nineteenth centuries. Selecting one of the links below will take you to the first reference to Langside within the selected text. This will not always be a description of a visit: travellers often mention places other than where they are, for example as a basis for comparison.
